THE APPLICATION

From the board.
To the finished pack.

Packaging brings together different board surfaces, fold designs and production speeds. The adhesive needs to fit the complete closing process.

Start with the actual carton or corrugated board, including coatings and printed areas. Then match the application pattern, available compression time and intended storage conditions to the adhesive grade.

APPLICATION POSSIBILITIES

Carton closing

Bonding flaps on folding cartons, with setting behaviour matched to assembly and compression time.

Case sealing

Hotmelt bonding for corrugated cases. Consider board quality, recycled-fibre content and the conditions during storage and distribution.

Packaging assembly

Discuss trays, inserts and other paperboard constructions that require controlled adhesive application and dependable assembly handling.

APAO / POLYOLEFIN HOTMELTS

Four terms.
A better closing process.

Balance the time needed to assemble the pack with the strength needed as it leaves the compression section.

FOLLOW THE CLOSURE

Apply. Join. Hold.
One connected process.

Place adhesive where contact happens.

Match the bead to the flap geometry and use the selected grade’s application temperature. Check nozzle position and cut-off on the actual board.

Review: application quality and the intended bonding area.
01 / OPEN TIME

Time to join

The available interval after application in which the adhesive can still form the intended bond. The flap must make contact within this window.

02 / SETTING

Time to hold

The bond develops handling strength as the hotmelt cools. Setting behaviour needs to suit line speed, compression and the opening force of the folded board.

03 / THERMAL STABILITY

Performance in the melter

Stability during heat exposure helps control changes such as charring, gels or viscosity drift. Tank residence time and maintenance also affect application quality.

04 / SERVICE RESISTANCE

Performance on the journey

The finished pack may encounter heat, chilled storage or freezing. Verify the completed closure under the conditions it will actually experience.

FROM ADHESIVE TO PACKAGING LINE

A clean application.
A dependable close.

Polyolefin technology includes different polymer platforms. APAO and other PO formulations are selected around the board, process and distribution conditions.

Why polyolefin hotmelts?

Modern PO formulations can combine efficient setting with good stability in heated application systems. The useful balance of open time, adhesion and thermal behaviour depends on the individual formulation.

Clean bead placement & controlled consumption

Use the grade’s specified temperature range and a bead pattern suited to the flap geometry. Review nozzle cut-off, positioning and compression when adjusting adhesive quantity. Lower consumption must still deliver the required closure integrity.

Recycled board, coatings & printing

Test the actual bonding areas. Different fibre structures, surface treatments and print finishes can change contact with the adhesive. Compare failure modes as well as bond strength during trials.

Cold-chain & warm-storage packs

A grade chosen for fast carton closing is not automatically suitable for every distribution environment. Evaluate fibre tear or bond separation after relevant conditioning and handling.

Food packaging & material documentation

Request documentation for the selected adhesive and its intended packaging use. Food-contact suitability depends on the complete construction and exposure scenario; it cannot be inferred from the term “polyolefin”.

Build the trial around your line.

Bring representative board samples, the pack design and details of the application equipment. Agree the closing window, storage conditions and evaluation criteria before comparing candidate OYTITHERM grades.

Coated & difficult surfaces

OYTITHERM3045

For cartons with lacquered or polymer-coated surfaces that are difficult to bond. A longer open-time profile allows more assembly time before compression.
