Review: layer alignment, bond integrity and softness.

01 / DIAPER CONSTRUCTION

A system of bonds.
Working together.

A diaper combines nonwovens, barrier film, absorbent materials and elastics. Each interface has a different job; adhesive selection starts with that job.

Construction & backsheet

Join the outer nonwoven to the barrier film and assemble the chassis. Controlled bonding keeps layers aligned while preserving the intended softness.

Core integrity

Stabilise the absorbent core and its wrap. The bonding approach depends on the fluff/SAP ratio, core architecture and integrity required after wetting.

Elastic attachment

Anchor stretched elastic strands or films at the waist, legs and barrier cuffs. Evaluate creep resistance and holding power as the elastics repeatedly extend and recover.

ADL & layer fixation

Hold the acquisition/distribution layer and adjacent layers in position. The application pattern must support liquid movement through the designed absorbent structure.

Tabs, panels & end seals

Assess frontal-tape anchoring, side-panel assembly, cuff connections and end seals against the materials and forces at each interface.

Specialty functions

Some designs also use hotmelt wetness indicators. These are a separate functional chemistry; suitability and availability need to be established for the specific project.

02 / FEMININE CARE

Stay in place.
Release cleanly.

Positioning adhesive belongs on the garment-facing backsheet and wings. It holds the pad on underwear and is protected by a removable release liner before use.

Balance initial tack and in-use holding power with clean removal from different fabrics. Check for adhesive transfer, fabric damage and liner-release behaviour.

Construction and core adhesives perform separate internal tasks: keeping the absorbent layers assembled and the core stable.

03 / WET-WIPE PACKAGING

A secure frame.
Every time it opens.

Hotmelt attaches the rigid plastic flip-top frame to the flexible film pack. The bonded frame stays fixed while the hinged lid opens and closes.

Plastic to flexible film

Evaluate the actual lid resin, film laminate, print or surface treatment and contact area. Adhesion must suit both surfaces.

Controlled application

Apply a consistent adhesive pattern beneath the frame, then position and press it onto the pack. Keep adhesive away from the dispensing opening.

Repeated-use checks

Assess frame peel, repeated opening and closing, pack flexing and compatibility with the wipe lotion. Resealable labels are a different adhesive application.
